Monsant Cafe still leaves me breathless each time I see photos of the cafe. I have been there a couple of times and I have to say the ambience is amazing. Situated on the west coast of Jeju Island, Monsant Cafe is one of the most visit places in the area. Monsant Cafe at Sunset is incredible, it is the west after all, so that shouldn’t be shocking. Many people flock to the cafe for afternoon coffee beverages, but the best time to go is by far sunset. The area of Aewol is rural and will take you back in time. I personally love the surroundings of the area more than other populated parts of the island.
Sometimes if the cafe is full, the best thing to do is to enjoy the outdoor area and watch the sunset. The first time I went to Monsant Cafe, it was all about enjoying their food offerings. However, on my second visit it was all about enjoying the view and sunset. The cafe is one of the most sought after cafe’s on Jeju Island but over the years it has become more about the view. You can take a look at my more detailed post about the cafe here.
Here are some General Tips to Enjoying Monsant Cafe
- Lower your expectations because you will most likely not see any celebrities there. Rumor has that it is owned by a famous Korean rapper, but that has not been confirmed. Go and enjoy the setting.
- If the cafe is full, do not leave. Get your order to-go and relax outside. The ocean breeze sweeping against your skin will make it all worth it.
- Go for mini photoshoot! If you feel like leaving, please don’t! Stay for the view because when all the elements align you can still enjoy the the best part about the cafe- the outdoor area. Also, you can take some amazing photos there, that’s to the natural surroundings and the reflective glass structure.
- Go in winter, too! The cafe is less crowded in winter and the menu is filled with many Christmas favorites, such as, hot chocolate and mulled wine If I remember correctly it is on the menu in French (Vin Chaud) or Italian (Vin Brulè).
- The location of the cafe is positioned perfectly on the western part of island, making it the best place to watch the sun go down. Yes, it is a famous cafe, but stay for Mother Nature.
- Near Monsant Cafe is Bomnal Cafe, so if one is crowded, you can try your luck at the other. I have never been to Bomnal because it is always crowded whenever I go there.
